Review:
Parallels between this film and the Exorcist is evident even in trailers, so I will not go too far with it. Only it is sufficient to say that the possession does not include the impact or shock value to the Exorcist. In short, it's just not as good film.However, in itself, it is a pretty competent horror film. History of the central characters is such a cliché. Husband and wife are divorced, they share custody of the children, theres a new guy / girl in the picture, etc. This type of set up is always handy when it comes to messy kid movie. In this way, what is wrong with the child will inevitably blame the child is simply not a good break up of her parents. And this is exactly what happens in his possession, but it is actually something very wrong with the youngest daughter, and it has absolutely nothing to do with his parents. Without giving too much away, the plot centers around an old wooden box at a yard sale to find the youngest daughter. Of course, she wants it, and so he gets it. And it's starting to happen pretty strange phenomena, most of them are just horrible, a few types of hokey.All all, I was happy. This movie has got good pace, decent acting and exceptional cinematography. Theres not much I can find fault here. If I had to mention my major complaint about this and similar films would be this: I'm not thrilled with the influx of PG-13 horror movies. Ive suspect this is due to the need to bring a wider audience (younger viewers / youth), and make more money from the sale of tickets. That's why the final product tends to be too diluted for my taste. Pool shows a lot of promise, but I can not help but wish that the writers / director would have pushed the envelope a little more, furthered the story. Then it would have been great. As it stands, ill just say that it's a good little horror film. Something does not talk about this time next year, but I have my money well spent.My Rating: 6.5/10
